BLYTHE - Matthew "Big Matt the Barber" Sam announced the winners from the 1st Annual Rap Competition held at Patty's Bar & Grill on March 2.

A "Safe Night Live" event, sponsored by Big Matt, was a success with nine performers seeking the bragging rights for being Blythe's Best Rapper.

At the end of the night Christopher "The Kid Wish" Key was crowned number one with Quincy "Q-AK" Starr and Cornell "Nell Tha Don" Farmer, coming in second and third, respectively. Key has been writing music since he was 7 and at the age of 14 he decided to pick up a mic and lend his skills as a rapper. The Kid Wish has hosted several events and performed on stages around town. He plans on perfecting his skills by continuing to perform locally and regionally.

Sam thanked all the people in the crowd, the participants, sponsors, and Patty's Bar & Grill, and plans on hosting more shows this year in Blythe and in the surrounding area.

I'm happy this event was a success. Everyone who was involved - organizers, performers, attendees - should be congratulated. Culturally diverse entertainment events like this one are important to the community.
