BLYTHE - Martin Suro, Jr. , 23, was sentenced to 10 years in state prison on Friday after accepting a plea deal and pleading guilty on May 30 to one count of intent to commit mayhem, rape, sodomy, oral copulation and one count of criminal threats that would result in great bodily injury and death.
Suro was arrested this year on March 2 after police were called to a home in the 300 block of S. Fourth Street in Blythe just after 9 p.m. in reference to an attempted sexual assault. Officers learned that earlier in the evening the victim had gone to the residence of Suro Jr., a longtime friend, to work on school work.
As the victim was leaving, Suro Jr. unexpectedly assaulted her with an electric "stun gun."
The victim attempted to fight the suspect off but was choked almost to unconsciousness. Suro Jr. repeatedly assaulted the victim by hitting her and assaulting with the "stun gun."
Suro was arrested and originally charged with the two counts for which he pled guilty to, plus one count of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted rape by force. The latter two charges were dropped as part of the plea deal.
Suro had remained in custody on a $1 million bond since his arrest. He was immediately remanded to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation after sentencing.
