BLYTHE - Blythe police arrested Cheema Kanwaljit, 38, nurse anesthesiologist at Palo Verde Hospital, on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol early Wednesdy morning.

Police found Kanwaljit in the McDonald's drive-through after getting a call about a white Toyota Camry cutting off the caller and trying to enter the freeway in the wrong direction.

Police talked to Kanwaljit, who was behind the Camry's wheel, and decided that she was under the influence of alcohol. Police took Kanwaljit to the station for further investigation and released her with a citation.

Kanwaljit was one of two anesthesiologists hired, on a contractual basis, by a 4-1 Palo Verde Healthcare District Board vote earlier this year on May 29. Vice President Cat McLain was the holdout vote.

Phone calls and voice messages to Palo Verde Hospital CEO Sandra Anaya about Kanwaljit's work shift hours for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning went unanswered by time of printing.

Kanawaljit was involved in a previous accident at 6:35 a.m. Oct.1. At that time she told police she was driving home from work at the hospital in a BMW sport utility vehicle and swerved to avoid an oncoming car in the 300 block of North First Street and hit a parked Nissan Maxima.

That earlier incident generated a flurry of postings on the Neighborhood Watch Blythe Facebook site that operators later took down. The postings also got the attention of Blythe Police.

A witness told the Times, she and her husband were the only people outside when the accident happened, and they did not see another vehicle approaching or moving on the street. Police still are investigating the earlier accident.

Anyone with information about this case, or any other crime, should call Blythe Police Department at 760-922-6111 or give information anonymously by calling Crime Stop at 760-921-CARE (2273) or by email at blythepd@cityofblythe.ca.gov.

All of you should be ashamed to discuss and comment without knowing the facts. I think it's called Blythe. Last week one of our citizen wrote a letter Shame on Blythe for not respecting veterans. Town elections are done , there is nothing else left to talk so let's talk about someone we don't even know. We all know shady past of our town. So let it be. As for her smashing her car, I saw the note where poor victim said in face book that she is getting ready for shopping. Leave it guys...

Oh that story of her smashing her car to boat, helicopter, fire truck, (deleted) house.... And who witness all this? (deleted) boyfriend ? That's too funny...That's a (deleted) up story right there. Do not call my "you were arrested" I work with her and know the lies. YOU need to sell your news paper so you make up stories. Why don't you cover the real news? if not then get money from donations rather tarnishing someone's reputation.

Jermey, if you read the news article you'll find some answers to your questions. She smashed into a parked car at 6:35 in the morning October 1st. There was daylight, and perfect driving conditions. She told the police she swerved to miss an oncoming vehicle, but witnesses that saw the collision said there was no other vehicle. So it appears she lied to the police. And who told you she was stopped fifteen times? Did she tell you that? The fact is, if someone drives crazy, and makes false statements to the police, that will draw some heat. I don't think you have to go looking for some conspiracy here. The CRNA has a criminal record and the Nursing Board is after her license. She brought law enforcement and newspaper attention upon herself in Blythe through her own actions.

@....Jermey Chancler. They cite, and release you . But you are still arrested. I know by first hand experience. I do believe you when you say that she was being harass by the police department.

In all of these going's on. She knew that they were following her, (deleted) That is on her, she should have known that sooner or later, they would get her. That in itself shows that she has no control (deleted). So what is to say that sooner or later she would have hurt someone at work or off work.

There is no excuse for here actions. You know that saying? "Sympathy" is found in the dictionary between (deleted), and (deleted).

Instead of speculating about this woman, if she is the one everyone is talking about. That has all of these charges stacked against her. Why not call on the CEO of the Hospital, or the Board Members. Have them clarify it to the people.

So, some of you are going to say. If you want to know so bad then why don't you do it, pica. The answer is, I do not use this Hospital. So stay thirsty my friends. Thirsty for the truth.

Let's not forget people that Dr S has been the one in charge of bringing the anesthesia providers to PVH. He is clearly the ring-leader. And I'm sure he is probably using this situation with the CRNA to distract the citizens of Blythe as to his recent mishaps.

That is strange that she was only convicted for shop lifting...If I remember correctly she admitted to the other accusations...Well we have to wait and see how things go for her here....I sure hope the hospital is testing before she is allowed to start her scheduled shift then test again at the end of the shift for patient safety...

Good Catch:

There it is, an "accusation" filed on March 13, 2013 involving a conviction for shoplifting and accusations about prescription drugs including forging a prescription. But, there is no indication that the Board of Registered Nursing has taken any action on the accusation. Now there is the drunk driving charge. Things seem to be piling up for this person and for the people who hired her at PVH.

But, let's remember, these are just charges. She hasn't been convicted of anything but shoplifting--so far.

It would be so nice if the ceo or the board would let us know if she is still employed at the hospital....(deleted)that could be fatal to patients..,i am thinking she may not be legal for employment ..This information makes the doctor look more innocent lol...but we still need to give him a chance and have lunch with him and the crna if she is still there...

Article comment by: To RE: Somebody call 911!!! !

I think you would find that the majority of PVH employees are honest and do not have these kinds of issues.
The thing note worthy here is the MEC has to privilege the CRNA's and also do peer review on them. I find it quite amazing that they have not suspend this CRNA's privileges! We all know who controls the MEC and he also has his Criminal charges to contend with.
I wonder how Ms. Hudson is doing with her FPPC legal issues?
Quite a group running PVH wouldn't you say Sahlolbei, Burton, Sartin and Hudson. Oh and the new CEO appears to have blended into the group now also.

Article comment by: Somebody call 9-1-1 !!!!!

A quick look at the California Board of Registered Nursing at www.rn.ca.gov reveals that there is only one nurse in California named Kanwaljit Cheema. And right there in black and white next to her name is the Board of Nursing document which outlines an accusation of multiple instances of criminal activity involving drugs, including stealing drugs from a hospital. This document is dated March 2013. In May 2013, Palo Verde Hospital gave this person a contract to provide anesthesia here in our town. Doesn't PVH do background checks? You would think these big shot hospital administrators at HFS Consultants that Sartin and Hudson brought in to "save" the hospital would know to look at the Board of Nursing website prior to handing out a contract, right? Just read that document! Wouldn't that be a red flag if you were hiring a CRNA? Is it any big surprise that this person is now driving around Blythe, smashing into parked cars and driving the wrong way up the I-10 off ramp? Somebody call 9-1-1, because PVH is trying to kill us!
