PALO VERDE - A meeting was held last week for residents concerning the sewer system proposed to be built in the town. At that time no vote was taken. Imperial County officials cited a number of problems that must be explored before the project can proceed.
Many questions were asked and many were answered, however, the answers were not accepted by many.
The question of a sewer system in the small town is perhaps one of the most important decisions the residents have ever had to make. Not only will the grant for the system have to be repaid, the monthly fees might be too high for those on fixed incomes.
There is also the question that if the sewer system does not become a reality, growth for the small town could be affected. Another problem is that a suitable place for the system to be located has some residents concerned.
Engineers also have a lot of questions as to where the facility should be built, so no firm decisions were made at the meeting and more information and study will be necessary.
School for youth in Palo Verde begins next week. School for the youth in Cibola, started last week. Those who attend school who live in Cibola do not attend Blythe schools but rather have to be bused to Ehrenberg or Salome. This situation has been a problem for parents for years but Arizona and California school officials stand firm on their decisions.
June Hamilton, curator Fort Gaston Historical Society Museum reports that she has the book, Another Wilderness Conquered for sale at the museum. Call her if you desire to pick up one of the books before Sept. l, which is the first day of the holiday that she will be open.
The Rod and Gun Club will also be putting the red carpet down for the hunters on the opening day of dove season. They plan to serve dinner and hold a dance as well as raffle off a beautiful Beretta gun.
Mary Lou Stansell recently had a pacemaker operation. This is her third try for a pacemaker. Usually these pacemakers last five to 10 years and sometimes problems arise.
Stansell says she feels much better with a pacemaker in place and urges others to look into the procedure if needed.
Board members of the Palo Verde Improvement Association are disturbed because the miniature golf course at the Palo Verde park has not been used as much as expected by the officials.
To play golf at the nine-hole course is free and the clubs and balls can be picked up for use at the Palo Verde Fire Department, Wheelies store, and Palo Verde Inn.
This is great fun for children as well as adults. Take advantage of this course.
Fishing has been excellent this week, regardless of the high temperatures. Bess Anderson caught two six pound catfish. She uses dough balls for bait.
Jerry Zurita is one of the new employees at Wheelies store. She lives in Cibola. If you have not had a chance to meet her, stop in and learn the newest information on Cibola.

The town is slowly getting rid of the tweekers and drug dealers. More and more weekend and retired folks are buying property. Be a positive voice with Imperial County to get things done! Palo Verde is still a very beautiful palce to be!

NEED A MAYOR
Palo Verde is becoming home of the tweekers and drug dealers. What better place to hide since the county cant even keep police there. So much for a retirement community that people can enjoy and build homes in. Thanks Imperial county for all your support !
