Winners of the summer reading program announced

BLYTHE - This year, 2012, the Palo Verde Valley Library signed up 182 grade school children in their "Dream Big, Read! program. Sixty-three children reached the grand goal of 25 books read and reported on, making them eligible for the grand prize, which included a paperback book of their choice; a reading certificate; activity sheets in a draw-string book bag; crayons or colored pencils - depending on their grade level; "Dream Big, Read!" star trophy; light up-bracelet; glow in the dark shutter shades and an iron T-Shirt transfer.

A total of 2,015 books were read by all of the participants.

In the primary grade school section there were 10 grand prize winners at the pre-school level: Michael Dolbec, George Fernandez, Tawny Hebdon, Jade John, Jennifer Lopez, Mailey Moore, Mia Peterson, Michael Robinson, Quwaan Smith and Kaycee Ward.

The seven kindergarteners at the grand prize level winners were Destyn Bracamontez, Logan Copple, Matthew Figueroa, Anthony Gonzalez, Taylen Moore, Pricella Soto and Matthew Villasis.

There were 15 first grade winners, the largest group of grand prize winners. They are Rio Albanez, Gracelyn Amaya, Preston Dean, Alexia Figueroa, Joseph Galvan, Carlos Gomez, Juleanna Gomez, Isabella Gonzalez, Brayden Hebdon, Esmeralda Hudson, Kristine Lomayesva, Emmanuel Nwisu, Gia Rodriguez, Kareema Smith and Jonathan Tennefos.

The seven second grade winners were Ryan Brisco, Nico Garnica, Ayanna Lomayesva, Maria Morales, Brock Peterson, Christian Sanchez, and Nicholas Scott.

There were 10 winners in the third grade category: Tommy Copple, Nicolas Dean, Gabriel Fernandez, Fernando Guerra, Hayden John, Teagan John, Jazlynn Lopez, Ruben Soto, Jackie Spear and Nicholas Tennefos.

Fourth and fifth grades tied with five winners each: 4th graders Laura Barocio, Iliana Cebreros, Brennen Copple, Fernando Morales, Demarcus Smith, and fifth graders Derek Brisco, Alexis Fernandez, Sienna Scott, Manny Williams and Michael Williams.

Four sixth grade winners round out the primary school readers: Kylie Jones, Lexi Scott, Symiah Wright and Katie Gonzales.

This year the library introduced a separate reading program for the seventh through 12th grade readers, "Own the Night." Once again the lowest and highest grade levels had the most winners: seventh graders Jesse Bryant, Morgan Milke, Jose Milke and Jared Dean and 12th graders Lemuel Jamison, Joshua Hernandez Lyndsay Lindervall and Noelle McMillin.

Winners in the other grades were Lauren Thompson representing 8th grade; Clarissa Hernandez and Lisa Martinez 9th grade; Marcie Gonzalez and Paul Martinez 10th grade and 11th grader Patricia Gonzalez.

These readers also received prizes for pages read such as a drawstring backpack, flexible book light, water bottle, plus other items. To reach top goal the participants had to read the equivalent of 1,500 pages (There were activities other than actual reading that they could participate in to reach the 1,500 page goal.)

Congratulations to all of our summer readers. You did a great job!
